Marathon of Boston

The Marathon of Boston is a pedestrian race of 42,195 km borrowing each year since 1897 the streets of Boston, usually the third Monday of April. It is the oldest annual marathon in the world which will celebrate its 111e edition in 2007.

This test is very particular insofar as the inscription is subjected to the obligation to present a time of qualification having to be carried out at the time of a preceding official marathon. Among those, qualifiers for the marathon of Boston, appear the 4 other marathons of the World Marathon Major League (Chicago, New York, Berlin, London) as well as the majority of the annual marathons of the American big cities. For example the old men between 18 and 34 years must justify of a time lower or equal to 3:10, run at the time of an official marathon, in the year preceding the marathon by Boston to which they are registered.

In 1986, the marathon must adapt to the requirements of the runners which assert a price. Indeed, until this date, the price was a crown of olive-tree.

Although the marathon of Boston is famous like one of most difficult, it can claim to be the place of world records, the rules of validation prohibiting to have an arrival with an altitude less low than the departure.

Edition 2006 was held the April 17th 2006.

The edition 2007 of the April 16th saw the symbolic system participation of the astronaut Sunita Williams, who carried out the course in orbit, to 300 km of altitude, board ISS.
