Male nurse of operating room suite

The Infirmier of Operating room suite is a specialization of the trade of Infirmier. The exact denomination varies according to the countries:

  • in France: IBODE (Graduate Male nurses of Operating room suite of State) or “pansor () instrumentalist”

  • in Switzerland: TSO (Technician in Operating room) or “instrumentalist” (this last has a formation less pushed than the TSO)

These professionals exert within a team in the operating room suites. In close cooperation with the surgeon, the Infirmier of operating room suite deals with the patient as of his arrival in operating room until at the end of the intervention, in recovery room.

It must manage the entirety of surgical operation, whatever the discipline. It is specifically responsible for:

  • to manage the good progress of surgical operation

  • to respect and make comply with the rules of Hygiene, Asepsis and Safety
  • the recording of the traceability of all the products, materials and acts exempted during the operation.

Essential partner of the operator and the team of Anesthesia (in particular IADE), the male nurse of operating room suite has other missions inherent in his function:

  • sterilization (modes, controls…)

  • formation and the framing
  • the evaluation of quality
  • risk management

Formation in France

The studies last 18 months; those break up in the course of Chirurgie (anatomy, physiology, procedures) and into training courses within operating room suites in practically all the mm

Swiss formation in

The training of technician in operating room lasts 3 or 4 years in an University of health. The formation comprises several training courses of short durations and a last training course of several months in the same establishment. The diploma is recorded by the Swiss Croix-Rouge.
