Malatya is a town of Turkey, Préfecture of the Province of the same name. It is old the Mélitène of the time of the Croisades, and the town of birth of saint Euthyme (377-473) one of the founders of the Byzantine Monachisme in Palestine.

Metilene was a great center of Christianity monophysite, the chronicler and philosopher Bar-Hebraeus occupied there the function of Maphrien.
