Makassar

Makassar (that the mode of Soeharto had famous “Ujung Pandang”) is the capital of the province Indonésien of Sulawesi of the South. It has the statute of kota (municipality).

The surface of the municipality is of 176  km. Its population was of 1  248  000  inhabitants in 2004.

The city is the seat of a archbishop's palace.

Linguistics

The language makassar belongs to the group known as " Sulawesi en" Austronesian branch of the Languages austronésiennes.

Culture and tourism

Makassar also indicates the ethnos group which populates the area. Seafaring nation, Makassar were a maritime great power with the sultanate of Gowa. Makassar went until on the coasts north of the Australia (which they called " Marage "), in particular to fish the Sea cucumber or trepang .

In the south of the city, with Gowa, the old palate of the sultans is, which shelters from now on a museum.

Makassar is the starting point to visit the country Toraja.

The city is connected by plane to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and to Singapore.
