Majolique
A majolic , of Italian maiolica who indicated the island of Majorque (15th century), in French, the generic name which indicates a Italian Faïence of the Renaissance, or one of the first French earthenware, either is manufactured by Italians, or manufactured according to the Italian technique and the taste (at the 16th century and 17th century).
Mainly realized in Tuscan and Emilie-Romagna, the Italian earthenware of the Rebirth is thus called because its production would have been stimulated by the Spanish ceramics importation which forwarded by the island of Majorque. This Spanish ceramics was characterized by their metal reflections ( Li Tre Libri dell' arte LED vasaio , towards 1550), which had with a technique of close relation-Eastern origin arrived to Europe by the means of Moorish Spain at the end of the Middle Ages.
Today, in Italian, maiolica is synonymous with “earthenware”.
