Magus

Religious capacity and wise advisers in the ancient Mède, the Mages made - inter alia - prediction with a future thanks to the study of stars and other sciences (occult) of the time. They converted with the Zoroastrisme on a vague date, during the thousand-year-old Ier front J. - C..

Particular case of the “Magi”

Characters representing of the remote empires of the time of Jesus Christ, the Magi (sometimes called more simply magi , i.e. scientific, these characters were never sovereign of a kingdom) are described by the Gospel of Matthieu, as being among the first visitors of the Jesus child during his birth with Bethléhem.

Their traditional names (that one can find in the Gospels apocryphal books) are:

  • Gaspar,
  • Nickel silver,
  • Balthazar.

The gun of the Bible does not specify of it however the exact number (" Here that magi come from the East arrived at Jérusalem" (Gospel according to Matthieu Saint, chapter 2, verse 1)). Number 3 was supposed according to the number of the gifts offered to Christ (Gold, myrrh and incense).
