Magnanville
Magnanville is a commune of France, located in the Yvelines close to Mantes-the-Pretty at 60 km at the west of Paris. This commune belongs to the Communauté of agglomeration of Mantes in Yvelines.
The name of Magnanville probably comes from the Latin magna villa , the large farm.
The inhabitants are called Magnanvillois.
Geography
The commune of Magnanville belongs to the agglomeration of Mantes-the-Pretty of which it is located at the southern periphery. It is established on inclined slopes towards north making transition between the valley from the Seine and the plate from the Mantois and dominating the valley from Vaucouleurs to the east.
It is bordering on Mantes-the-City in the North-East, of Auffreville-Brasseuil in south-east, Soindres in the south and Buchelay in the North-West.
It is a largely urbanized commune, especially in its northern part in continuity of the agglomeration of Mantes-the-Pretty - Mantes-the-City, but which preserves a rural character on about half of its territory, arable lands in south-east and the North-West and wood in the west (field of the castle).
The habitat primarily suburban, is formed of relatively recent allotments, on both sides of the principal road axis, the RD 928. The North-East of the commune is devoted to various, commercial activities and tertaires.
The commune is served by the exchanger of Mantes-South of the Autoroute of Normandy (A13) which passes not far from the northern limit of the commune, bordered by the secondary road 110. It is crossed in the North-South direction by the secondary road 983, axis important of the department which connects in particular Mantes-the-Pretty to Houdan. This road is to four way in the crossing of the commune.
The communal territory is crossed by two paths of great excursion, the GR. 26, which skirts the southern limit in the East-West direction, and the GR. 11 (turn of the Ile-de-France), which skirts the limit is in the North-South direction.
History
The blazon of the city comprises two spearheads in saltire. These lances would point out a historical episode: the king Philippe Auguste returning one evening of June towards Mantes with his vassal would have exclaimed “ Oh, the beautiful lances! ” by seeing their lances shining with the sun.

Culture
- Castle of Magnanville: built in 1750 per Charles Savalette, farmer general. It was largely destroyed by one of the following owners at the beginning of the XIXe century. In 1807, the baron Robillard makes rebuild the still existing wing. Today seat of a center of Gerontology.
- firm seigneuriale: the dependences of the old farm seigneuriale, dating from the XVIIe century are tranformées today in arts center. They include/understand in particular an important dovecote of cylindrical form covered of a roof in pepper plantation.
Sport
- Magnanville is the town of departure of the annual cycle race Paris-Camembert cheese.
