History
Four various New Yorkean rooms were successively called Madison Square Garden. The two first were located at Madison Square, from where them name. Later, one built of them another with the angle of the 50e street and the 8th avenue, and finally that which one currently knows, above Pennsylvania Station, with the angle of the 33e street and the 7th avenue.
1879-1890
The site of the first Madison Square Garden, now known under the name of Madison Square Garden I , was formerly a Gare of the New York and Harlem Railroad on the 26e and Madison Avenue. When the station was moved in Grand Final Exchange in 1871, the site was sold with Phineas Taylor Barnum and was reconverted in Hippodrome under the name of " Barnum' S Monster Classical and Geological Hippodrome". In 1876, it was retitré " Gilmore' S Garden" in the honor of Patrick Gilmore. The richissime contractor William Henry Vanderbilt has officially famous Gilmore' S Garden in Madison Square Garden and it reopened the room with the public the May 31st 1879. The first arena was in the beginning built for the Cyclisme on track.
1890-1925
The second Madison Square Garden (now known under the name of Madison Square Garden II ), also located at the angle of the 26e and Madison Avenue was designed by the architect Stanford White. Its unhappy creator knew on the other hand a tragic destiny: the June 25th 1906, it was assassinated on the roof of Garden by Harry K. Thaw, husband jealous of Evelyn Nesbit, an young woman mannequin that Stanford White had allured. The new structure of architecture Moors had a size of 61 meters X 148 meters with a tower in the shape of minaret of 32 stages. The principal hall of Garden, was largest in the world, it measured 61 meters X 106 meters with a capacity of 8.000 seats and surface on the ground could accommodate thousands of them moreover.
On Garden was a statue of Diana which is now with the Philadelphia Museum off Art. A copy is in the Metropolitan Museum off Art. The statue is 5,5 meters high and is made of copper finely worked with gildings. It was conceived by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and was made by W.H. Mullins with Salem (Ohio).
It accommodated Democratic National Convention of 1924, which elected John W. Davis after 103 votes. The building was destroyed in order to build the New York Life Insurance Building.
1925-1968
Third Garden, now known under the name of Madison Square Garden III , was built with the angle of the 50e Rue and of the 8th Avenue by the promoter George Lewis Rickard, the building was called " The House That Tex Built". The New York Rangers obtained their name in a word game with the name of Tex (for example, the Tex' S Rangers ). It was built in 249 days and was inaugurated the December 15th 1925.While the Ringling bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus began in Garden in 1919, third Garden saw a great number of events. The circus was so important for the room that when the New York Rangers played the finales of the Coupe Stanley 1928, the team had been forced to play all the matches on the road (Rangers gained the series). The circus had continued to occur in Garden more than three times per day, on several occasions striking Rangers out of Garden at the time of the finales lasting all the life of the Madison Square Garden III . Even with the MSG IV, the matches were to start as late as 21:00 to adapt to the circus.
The January 17th 1941, 23.190 people attended the boxing match between Fritzie Zivic and Henry Armstrong. It is the record of assistance of all Gardens.
In 1989, the room was destroyed and replaced by the One Worldwide Plaza.

The February 11th 1968, the fourth Madison Square Garden, Madison Square Garden IV was open after the Pennsylvania Railroad financially worried destroyed the Pennsylvania Station (although the ways remained below). It cost $123 million USD. Garden is today the hub of Madison Square Garden Center known under the name of Pennsylvania Plaza (generally shortened in " PEN Plaza").In 1972, the President of Garden, Irving Mitchell Felt, had proposed to move the Knicks of New York and the Rangers of New York in a new arena envisaged in the New Jersey. This decision was the result of the taxes on buildings surplus between Garden and the town of New York which had by MSG. The situation widened even more in 1980 when it had there a threat brought back by Garden on the movement of the Knicks of New York to the Nassau Coliseum and of the Rangers of New York to the Meadowlands Arena if its taxes on buildings were not reduced. The two threats were not taken seriously by the city, however the forever made movement.
In 1991, the owner of Garden spent $200 million USD to renovate the arena, by adding 89 continuations.

The dispute starts following a coarse fault of Mardy Collins on J.R. Smith left in counter-attack, the two players come to the hands, then the remainder of the players, Nate Robinson and J.R. Smith fight even in the platforms. The tension falls down after the intervention of safety and certain players who try to calm the spirits, at this point in time Carmelo Anthony strikes a punch to the face of Mardy Collins, its coéquier Jared Jeffries tries to make justice itself but the players and safety prevents some preventing that the situation does not degenerate. Certain media thinks that Isiah Thomas coach of Knicks to have required of its players to harden the end of match because Nuggets one preserved them five major until the end to humiliate its team. With final the ten players are explusés by the referees, this business points out another brawl between Ron Artest and Ben Wallace. Smith of 10 matches, like 6 and 4 respectively for Mardy Collins and Jared Jeffries.

In September 2005, the current owner of Garden, Cablevision, had projects to build fifth Garden. If the project advances, a new room would be built at the western end of the James Farley Post Office, on the 33e street and the 9th avenue. New Garden, which will remain the residence of Rangers and Knicks, will comprise broader concourses with stores and restaurants, continuations of luxury with better lines of sight for the matches of Basket-ball and Hockey, a museum, and a hall off famed.
