Macrocycle
see also: Etymology of Macrocycle
A macrocycle is a cyclic Macromolécule or macromolecular cyclic part of a macromolecule. However, the macrocycle term is also used to indicate molecules with major cycle which do not answer the criteria of definition of the macromolecules.
Thus, in nonmacromolecular chemistry, a macrocycle is an organic molecule with a great cyclic structure, usually containing at least 15 atoms. For example, the Porphyrine S are macrocycles.
There exist also examples of macrocycles Inorganique S and macrocycles Organométallique S.
