History
With the beginning of the year 1900 when American began the adventure in the world of the Automobile, the trucks were far from being a priority.
Les only produced trucks were assembled mainly with the surplus of the parts of Voiture S, or with parts not-in conformity.
Mack jack, born in 1864, was to change all that. It was one of the five brothers (the others are William, born in 1859, therefore it is the groin, Charles, Joseph and Augustus). Raised with the Firm of his/her German parents close to Scranton in Pennsylvania in the USA.
In 1878 Jack left his/her parents to go to work like “teamster”. It was 14 years old. Mack learned how to work of the engine steam , a talent which carried it to the sea since he worked during several years on Bateau X and docks around the United States and of the area of the Canal of Panama.
With its life of sailor Jack Mack learned the trade and decided with his/her Augustus brother to buy a small firm of construction of Chariot to Wagon S with Brooklyn in 1893. It was not the good moment to begin these businesses because the country had been seized by the economic depression and the brothers satisfied little world. However, they succeeded in forging a solid reputation as break-down mechanics of carriages. Jack and Augustus then started to try out new types of motor vehicles which started to turn around big cities.
In 1900, after eight years of work, the first motor vehicle makes hands of Mack was ready. Actuated by a Driving with Gasoline to four cylinders of Mack design, using a Clutch with cone, a Transmission to 3 Speed S, and a speed of 32 km/h, the first vehicle was really a Autobus, designed to carry 20 tourists to the park of Brooklyn. It was the first bus successful in the United States. This model was manufactured with 150 specimens until 1914. Inaugural Mack was useful during 8 years for public transport and then was converted into truck and then the vehicle at withdrawn summer of circulation, 17 years after having traversed a million miles!
The prototype the " old number one " if was succeeded that other orders were going soon to follow. The three other brothers of Mack joined Jack (or rather the company Mack Brothers Company) in the state of New York while bringing $35.000 of funds.
In 1905 they had become too large for their small room of Brooklyn and had moved in Allentown, Pennsylvania. But Jack Mack did not intend to produce commercial vehicles for the building. It cut through a path in the design and the manufacture of the trucks to measure by using the durable components, with true parts, designed especially for its vehicles. Very early, it designed trucks with the seats with the top of the engine, which was the precursor of the modern cabins. The trucks could transport a capacity of 7,5 tons.
Mack was also distinguished in the fire pumps, the cars of bus and railroad. Until 1911 Mack is the first manufacturer of resistant trucks, producing 600 units per annum. But, it needed more than money to increase its production and to continue to grow, and financier J.P. Morgan organizes the fusion of Mack Company with Saurer Motor Company and Hewitt Motor Company, to form International Motor Company. The company will finally drop the productions other than the trucks. Not very satisfied with the changes senior officers with the new company, it and three of his/her brothers “will clean” the new trust. In 1918 Saurer became again autonomous, the names of Hewitt and International is not used any more, to avoid any confusion with another American mark, International trucks Harvester.

This truck of 6 tons was called “the bulldog” because of its resistance, which will give rise to the symbol of the mark, and it is in 1922 qu ' it was adoté like logo. The front cap was directly inspired by the models…. Renault of the time (cap alligator celebrates it) what the catalog in 1916 recognizes explicitly.
