Machecoul

Machecoul is a common French, located in the department of the Loire-Atlantique and the area Pays of the Loire.

The common belongs to the historical Brittany, in the traditional country of the Pays of Retz and in the historical country of the Nantes Pays. The inhabitants of the commune name the Machecoulais and Machecoulaises .

Geography

The Commune of Machecoul is surrounded of the communes in Loire-Atlantique of Bourgneuf-in-Retz, Fresnay-in-Retz, Saint-Even-the-Held, Saint-March-of-Cost, Saint-Lumine-of-Cost, Saint-Philbert-of-Large-Place, the Marne, Paulx and in the Vendée of Wood-with-Céné.

History

Machecoul, capital historical of the County of Ray then Duché of Retz was the residence of the Lord of Machecoul or Ray and known one period ostentation under the Duché of Brittany.

Part of Machecoul, the parish the Trinity, belonged to the " common steps " Brittany and Poitou: This territory, taking again that of the County of Herbauges, between the Duchy of Brittany and the County of Poitiers, profited from a particular status, making it possible the local populations to maintain their common laws, their ancestral traditions and with the two provinces to make safe the common border.
