Mac OS 8
Mac OS 8 is the name given to the eighth major revision of the Operating system of the computers Apple Macintosh. For the first time it is named Mac OS , much more attractive than the preceding denominations " System " ; (Ex: System 7 ). Apple having indeed decided to catch up with the errors of the System 7 (namely: bugs with repetition with the updates 7.5, material not or badly supported,…) while making disappear all that had milked with its predecessor. A few months later an update is launched: Mac OS 8.1 . The purpose of it is to deal with the filesystem HFS+, which succeeds the HFS, considered to be unsuited. Mac OS 8.1 is the last version of Mac OS to be turned on the processors Motorola 680x0.
Main new things
Mac OS 8 is characterized by its new graphical interface known as " platinum " ; and the famous rigging bar called Control Strip (arrived with system 7.5), folding on itself which made it possible to modify of a click the principal parameters systems. In this summer 1997, Mac OS 8 wanted to be convivial. The system made new skin. Many programs are created especially for this system of which the office automation continuation ClarisWorks 4.0.
But Mac OS 8, it is also the first version of system including in its initial version all the communications tools ( TCP/IP ; PPP ) and applications (Microsoft Internet Explorer) necessary for the setting in network and the access Internet.

- October 23rd 1997: Apple sold 2 million specimens of MAC OS 8.0.
