M17 is a Nébuleuse in emission discovered by De Chéseaux in 1746 then redécouverte by Messier in 1764 located in the Sagittarius.
It is also known under the names of nebulous Oméga , the Cygne , the Horseshoe , or the Homard .
Characteristics
Nebula is very brilliant, it is also visible with the naked eye under good conditions under the low latitudes (Magnitude connects 6). This is due to the fact that it shelters star S young people of standard B born of nebula and who irradiate gas around, thus creating a Région HII, the red color of nebula is besides that of the Hydrogène ionized. There in Infra-red, one could observe an significant amount of dust favorable to the star formations. Within nebula a open Amas would be made up of about thirty stars masked by nebula. The diameter of nebula borders the 40 light-years.
Observation
From its luminosity, M17 is very easy to locate: it is located at 2° in the south-west of the Gamma star of the Écu. In an instrument of 114 mm, provided with a filter UHC, it reveals a good part of its nuances and plays of light. From one 200 mm, the vision are fairy-like, the last word being to take a photograph with long installation of it to seize the color dew of it.
