Múm
Múm (to pronounce " moum") of music Icelandic is a group whose style is related with glitch.
Biography
The group
Múm was created in 1997 by Gunnar Örn Tynes, Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason, and the twin sisters Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir. In 2002, Gyoa left the group to resume its studies. Then it was the turn of his/her sister in 2006.
Music
The music of Múm is a tasty mixture of Glitch, électronica and Post-rock'n'roll. Like several Icelandic groups, which impassions in their music is the magic and envoûtement that it gets. The universes of Múm are really fascinating and sometimes poignant. The rhythmic funds are often made small electronic sounds which are integrated very well with the melody beaches simple and planing. Over all that comes to be added the whispering and innocent voice of Kristin, which can make think of that of Emilie Simon.
They play on the same scene as their fellow-members of Sigur Rós, with whom they recorded the piece Syndir Guds .
The name
According to an interview drawn from the late Fókus magazine, the name " múm" would come owing to the fact that the form of the word represents two elephants intertwining their horns.
Antecedents
Before múm, its various members had very diverse experiences of the music.
Gunnar
Gunnar started in the music by making " hardcore old-school" on Amiga. These recordings were never published, but one day perhaps…
Kristín and Gyða
Kristín and Gyða began the very young piano and the violoncello. At 9 years, they created a musical comedy with schoolmates.
Örvar
Örvar started to create music when his/her parents bought their first computer by manufacturing the music for a play which it developed in BASIC. Since then, its love of the " blips" never dried itself up.
