Lydie
The Lydie is an old country of Asia Mineure, located on the Aegean Sea and whose capital was Sardes. She was known by Homère under the name of Méonie. The Lydie is evoked in the legends of Héraclès and Omphale, or of Tantale and Pélops (ancestors of the Atrides).
Geography
The Lydie was a Western area of Asia Mineure, bordered in north by the Mysie, in the south by the Carie and in the east by the Phrygie. Including/understanding the valleys of the Hermos and Meander, the Lydie was located on the course of the commercial main roads, and had many own mining resources.
History
The Lydians are Indo-European people which initially was under domination Phrygie. According to Homère, their name comes from Lydos , wire of Attis. After the fall of Phrygie, they push back the Cimmériens to the VI E It is the beginning of the Lydian empire, which culminates with the reign of Crésus. The Lydie extends then on all Asia Mineure, Lycie excluded. The wars of Crésus however leave the Lydie in sorry state, and it is conquered by Cyrus Large the (546 av. J. - C.) and is annexed to the Perse. After the conquests of Alexandre Large the, it belongs to the kingdom of the Séleucides, then of that of Pergame (260), and finally of the Roman Empire in 129 av. J. - C.

The Lydie formed 1579 with 548 av. J. - C. a kingdom whose limits varied, but which, under Crésus, extended from the Aegean Sea with the Halys. The kingdom had three dynasties of kings, the Atyades (1579 with 1292), the Héraclides (1292 with 708), Mermnades (708 with 547).

Economy
Located on trade route between the Mediterranean basin and the Central Asia, the Lydie knew to draw the advantages from its geographical location, thanks to taxes and customs duties. Having important own mining resources, in particular in electrum (mixture of Or and money), onyx and Mica in the river Gold mine and the Mount Tmolos, the Lydie was the eldorado Greece, with which it maintained many commercial exchanges, in particular via the Greek cities of the littoral Anatolia N. Economic power, the Lydie was also a banking power, since the Lydians invented the use of the Monnaie.
