Loures

Loures is a city and a municipio located at the north of Lisbon to the Portugal, created on July 26th, 1886 by a royal decree.

Loures has a surface of 169 km ² and approximately 200000 inhabitants in 2001. The city itself has a population of 15967 inhabitants.

The municipio bordering are Odivelas, Sintra, Mafra, Arruda back Vinhos, Vila Franca de Xira and Lisbon.

The municipio includes/understands three zones:

  • first is rural in north (Freguesia S of Lousa, Fanhões, Bucelas, Santo Antão C Tojal and São Julião C Tojal)
  • second is urban in the south (Frielas, Loures and Santo António back Cavaleiros)
  • the troisème is industrial in the east (Apelação, Bobadela, Camarate, Moscavide, Portela de Sacavém, Prior Velho, Sacavém, Santa Iria de Azóia, São João da Talha and Unhos)

To the east, the ten freguesias aspire to autonomy compared to Loures and constitute a particular municipio in the town of Sacavém. This claim perdure since the beginnings of the republic of Portugal and is strongly supported by the local population.

The municipio includes/understands 10 fargusias (after the secession of Odivelas and six others freguesias - Caneças, Famões, Olival Basto, Póvoa de Santo Adrião and Ramada - in 1997 to constitute another municipio):
