Louis Archinard , born with the Harbor the February 11th 1850 and died in Villiers-the-Beautiful the May 8th 1932, is a French general of the Third Republic, which contributed to the colonial conquest of the France in Western Africa. It is often presented like the conqueror and the peacemaker of the French Sudan (current Mali).
Louis Archinard is resulting from a Protestant family of the Havre. His/her father directed the Protestant schools of the city. He makes his studies with the Polytechnic school (X1868 Promotion), from where he leaves on May 10th 1870 as second lieutenant to the regiment marine artillery.
After a mission in Cochinchine between 1876 and 1878, it is named inspector of the studies at the Polytechnic school before joining in 1880 the French Sudan at the request of Borgnis-Desbordes. It carries out various partners to it making it possible France to continue its colonial penetration. It penetrates with Ségou in 1890 and seizes Djenné in 1893.
Of return in metropolis, it is promoted Brigadier general in April 1896, Major general, then ordering 32 {{E}} division with Perpignan. It is named at the superior council of the war in 1911. In July 1914, it is promoted Grand-croix of the Legion of honor. In 1917, it is charged to create the Polish army in France. In 1919 it receives the Military decoration.
The Archinard general took his retirement with Villiers-the-Beautiful. The president of the Republic Paul Doumer visited him on May 5th 1932. Paul Doumer was assassinated the following day by a Russian emigrant, Paul Gorgulov, whereas it had gone to the “Day of the book”. Reached several balls of revolver, the president, transported urgently to the hospital Beaujon, died in the night. By learning the news, the general Louis Archinard, 82 years old, subsided, killed by the emotion.
