Lostanges

Lostanges is a common French, located in the department of the Corrèze and the area the Limousin.

The inhabitants are called the Lostangeois .

Etymology

The name of the commune comes from Laustangas in Occitan (1241), which means the army of the angels , of the medieval term Ost . At the time of the French revolution, the parish was called the Mount Jolly .

In France, there do not exist other communes bearing the name Lostanges, mais :

  • around Castrate, with Navès, exists a locality and a castle which carry same the nom  ;
  • the museum of the city of Castrate preserve a portrait of a lady of Lostanges  ;
  • with Holy-Alvère (the Dordogne), there exist the ruins of the castle of Lostanges  ;
  • with Béduer (Batch), one can still see the castle of Lostanges Béduer.

Blazon of the commune

Of money, with the lion of mouth armed, lampassé, crowned azure, accompanied by five stars of mouth, put in orle (white money, red mouth, blue azure). This blazon was voted by the municipal council on January 30th, 1983. Weapons of Lostanges.

Places and monuments

  • Church equipped with a Retable of the 17th century. This retable is the work of Tournier of Gourdon (Lot). The church is built with the site of the fortress which does not exist today any more, with certain stones of this one. The abbot Jean-Baptiste Poulbrière, in his dictionary of the parishes of Tulle, speaks about high a Tour Féodale.

  • the botanical Park, which is located at the village of Saumont. It has a surface of approximately 2 hectares. The park is opened with the public since the summer 1993, and more than 500 plants are répertoriées  there;
  • the Vault Holy Roch at the village of Blavignac, recently restored and whose small Cloche carries the date of 1688.
  • the Castle of Blavignac which had belonged to Raymond de Pesteil Chevalier, old Chanoine, Count de Brioude, is a deprived residence, which is not visited.
