Around film
- Andrew Niccol took as a starting point five true traffickers of weapons to create the characters of Yuri but more resembling is Victor Bout. He has even thorough research until contacting some of these " professional ". The character of Andre Baptiste, the president of the Liberia, as for him would be based on the true former president, Charles Ghankay Taylor.
- the majority of the events of films have precedents, even the rather mysterious release of a trafficker of weapons stopped in the United States.
- Andrew Niccol used several " additional " who were completely real and costing even less than from the factitious ones. For a plan of film having to be located in Ukraine, instead of using the synthesized images to recreate about fifty tanks, it found a man in Czech Republic having 100 tanks Russian T-72 of manufacture and acceptor of him to rent some of them. " I bring them to you Tuesday to 9:00 of the morning: you are sure to find there them all perfectly aligned " he declared T it. The tanks were sold shortly after turning. It also buys 3 000 true AK-47, less expensive than of the false ones, than it then resold.
- turning was held in the United States (New York and Wendover), in South Africa and a Czech Republic.
- One should not confuse off Lord War (which of a little incorrect English could be translated by Seigneur of war ) with the film the Lord of the war ( The War Lord ) of Franklin J. Schaffner with Charlton Heston.
- In the original version of film, the Liberia is presented as being a French-speaking country, whereas it is actually about an anglophone country.
- Ironically, the name of Yuri Orlov is also that of a researcher in Nuclear physics, former dissident Soviet and activist of the Human rights (see Yuri Orlov).
