Llullaillaco
The Llullaillaco or Llullay-Yacu is the higher third active Volcan in the world, after the Monte Pissis and the Ojos del Salado. The volcano is in the the Andes at the border between the Argentine (in the province of Salta) and the Chile (in IIe Región de Antofagasta).
Etymology
Its name probably comes from the Quechua: Yuyaq yaku , or misleading water , name of a marshy lagoon of its Argentinian Eastern Piedmont (laguna engañosa), and locally marked yuyaiyaco , which gives in Spanish llullaillaco - the Spanish L deciding there like the L wonder in French.

He is also the sixth highest mountain of South America, and the highest top of the province of Salta.
Its top and its sides are snow-covered and present small glaciers, as of great castings of ash and volcanic rocks. Since its summits go down radially from the small brooks, of which some feed from the marshes on the Argentinian side.
History
The first rise was carried out on February 1st 1952 by Bión González and Juan Harseim.It was in particular climbed by the German pilot Hans-Ulrich Rudel.
The volcano is inactive since 1877, date on which the last eruption occurred. But the references on this subject are strong vague.
In 1999, one discovered close to his top a cemetery which one released three mummies, the Mommies of Llullaillaco . They are the bodies of children sacrificed by Quechua S so that they regarded as their Déité S. They was mommifiés by congelation. They are exposed today in interesting the Museo de Arqueología of Alta Montaña ( archaeological museum of high mountain ), in summary MAAM , with Salta.
Tourism
The access to the foot of Llullaillaco is done by means of vehicles or of Mulet S. One can rent the latter near the inhabitants of the localities of the sector.
