Livia Turco

Livia Turco (born the February 13rd 1955 with Morozzo, in the Province of Coni, Piedmont -) is an Italian political woman.

Biography

Born from a family of middle class Piedmont ease, it makes its studies initially with Coni and in following Turin, where it obtains a control in Philosophie.

It starts its political activity coed in Turin, by being registered with the Italian Communist party (NCV). In its lists she will be elected Député E for the first time in 1987.

Within the Communist party, it will be initially responsible in the Fédération of Italian Communist youths (FGCI) and in continuation responsible for the Femme S in the local Fédération of the party. In parallel she will exercise the mandates of municipal adviser and regional adviser.

Favorable to the transformation of the Communist party into Democratic party of the Left ( Partito democratico della Sinistra , PDS) into 1991, it continues to sit at the House of Commons of 1992 with 2001.

Its first ministerial experiment goes back to 1996, when it belongs to the first Gouvernement of Romano Prodi as a minister of the Social solidarity. It will also occupy this load in the governments guided by Massimo D' Alema.

In 2000 it is candidate of a Coalition of Center-left to the presidency of the Région Piedmont, but it is demolished by the outgoing president Enzo Ghigo, candidate of the Maison of freedoms.

In 2006, it is elected Sénat rice and will return in the second government of Romano Prodi as Minister for the Santé. ----
