Live MCMXCIII

Live MCMXCIII is the third album live of the Velvet Underground, collected with the Olympia of Paris, in 1993, at the time of the reformation of the group. Lou Reed, John Fixes, Sterling Morrison and Moe Tucker indeed gave a series in concerts in Europe, in particular in first part of U2. It is about an double-album, but an edition " simple" also exist.

If Nico (deceased in 1988) is inevitably absent from round, one can nevertheless be astonished by the absence of Doug Yule, which, if it were not there as of the formation of the group in 1965, all the same joined it as of 1968. In fact, Sterling Morrison wanted to reinstate Yule in the formation, but Reed and Cale are there seems it opposite.

At the same time, two other albums (including one " MTV Unplugged ") were envisaged, but, finally, none will be born. Indeed, the group separates again (probably because of the strong personalities of Reed, Cale and Morrison). Hardly two years later, Sterling Morrison dies of a cancer, definitively compromising the hope of a new album studio.

For the fans and the critic, to see Velvet Underground filling the European stages could appear rather strange, shifted, even opportunist. Indeed, at least under the aegis of Lou Reed, Velvet Underground had remained a confidential group, with the unhealthy texts and the experimental musics, confined by the fact in modest concert halls in only North America.
