Geography

History

The current commune of Oberhaslach was a place inhabited by tribes Celtes as of Antiquity. Located at the crossing of two important roads, the Romains made of it a place of garrison which was transformed little by little into modest village of size (attest some steles exposed to the historical Musée of Strasbourg).

At the 7th century, Florent, a hermit from Ireland converts the surroundings with the Christianisme and settled at the place where is currently the Saint-Florent vault. Florent became thereafter bishop under the name of Florent of Strasbourg.

With the Middle Ages, the place was populated by Germanic families and Germanic arrivals of Germany and Switzerland, giving its name to the villages of Oberhaslach and Niederhaslach (haslach=" hole of the noisettes" in old Germanic language).

The village was decimated by the Guerre Thirty Year old and the repopulation of made mainly by families from Switzerland.
