List of the first 20 manufacturers of semiconductors with the passing of years
This article presents the manufacturing classification by turnovers of the companies of the Semi-conducteur S or electronic chips with the passing of years. One distinguishes three types of companies:
- the manufacturers, who conceive, manufacture and market integrated circuits (or electronic chips).
- the companies Fabless (without production equipment), which designs and markets chips, but which sub-contract their manufacture at companies of foundry.
- the companies of foundry which produce chips designed by their customers.
Before 2000, the classification of reference was given by Gartner Dataquest Corp. But since, the reference is rather the classification given by iSuppli. In both cases, they are appuyent on the financial reportings of companies manufacturer of the electronic chips. This classification is published each April of the following year, when the financial reportings are closed. This publication is relayed by the electronic press, like eetimes. This article was written using these publications.

Classification 2006
iSuppli source (classification except companies of foundry)
By including the companies of foundry S, one would have:
Notes:
- (1): In October 2006, AMD repurchased the company ATI Technologies. The additional incomes generate by this repurchase explain the spectacular rise of AMD in this classification.
- (2): In 2006, the semiconductors activity of the parent company, Philips were sold with a consortium American private funds through a LBO to create a baptized new business NXP Semiconductors.
- (3): In 2006, Freescale (old branch semiconductors of Motorola) was sold with a basic consortium private American through a LBO (known to be the most important LBO of a technological company).
- (4): In 2006, the memories activity (primarily of DRAM) of the parent company, Infineon separated (spin-off) to create a baptized new business Qimonda. What explains the fall of Infineon in the classification. The new business, Qimonda becomes the largest global manufacturer of DRAM.
Classification 2005
iSuppli source (classification except companies of foundry)
By including the companies of foundry S, one would have:
Notes:
- (1): During 2005, the companies AMD and Fujitsu sold their participation in their common company Spansion. The latter operates now like an independent company and points in the 24th place. With a combined turnover of 5.970 Md$ in 2005, AMD/Spansion would point in the 8th place.
- (2): The activities of foundry of IBM are excluded from this turnover.
- (3): Signal 5 of the companies known as Fabless is the following:

Notes
- (1): Renesas is the new name of the company resulting from fusion into 2002 of the semiconductors activities of the Japanese companies Mitsubishi and Hitachi.
- (2): In 2003, Freescale is the name of the company resulting from the Spin-off of the activities of semiconductors of Motorola.
- (3): In 2003, AMD and Fujitsu created a common company Spansion, which gathers their activities of Mémoire flash. This one is held mainly by AMD and its A.C. is thus attached to him in the classification.
- (4): This A.C. does not take into account the activities of foundry of IBM.
- (5): Signal 5 of the companies known as Fabless is the following:
