List normaliens by promotion
This article is a list of normaliens famous classified by promotion. Contrary to much of other schools, but as to the Polytechnic school, the promotion of a normalien is its year of entry at the National university (Ulm in the absence of precision). This is probably due to the fact that the pupils of these Schools being formally employed by the State (as probationers of Higher education for the ÉNS or that soldiers for Polytechnique), the appointed year is that of integration in the entity. When a normalien redoubles one year (what as in the majority of the schools of engineer relates to only very few pupils), it preserves its year of promotion, contrary to the use in force with Polytechnique (where it is regarded thereafter as pertaining to following promotion).
It there have a contest in 1915, owing to the fact that the majority of the candidates were under the flags. There was nevertheless a contest of 1916 to 1918, offering only one number limited of places and intended for the not-mobilized candidates (too much young people or reformed). In 1919, there was parallel to the traditional contest a contest reserved for demobilized; those appear then on the documents of the administration like belonging to promotion 1919*.
In the beginning, the normaliens do not recevaivent a diploma of the National university, but could be prevailed of the title of former student of the ÉNS, a “archicube” in the slang of the School. Besides this term gives its name to the directory of old, which is called a “archicubier”.
