It was the fifth line of the network to offer a service to the public, and the first to do it in the south Avenida Rivadavia, in the most proletarianized part the least prosperous and city.

History

Construction was done in several stages. Work began in 1938 and its first section from 3,08 kilometers, between Plaza Constitución and the intersection of the streets Calle San Juan and General Urquiza , was inaugurated in June 1944, to succeed 6 months later with the provisional terminus of " Boedo". This last station remained terminus until 1966.

As from April 1966, the línea E modified its course at its two ends, starting in the east with the new terminus of Plaza of Mayo and finishing in the west " Avenida Plata" , using for that two new sections of tunnel, one, between " Bolívar" and " San José" , and the other between " Boedo" and " Avenida Plata" thus leaving a station-phantom in a piece of tunnel of the old layout (" San Jose vieja").

With this new layout inaugurated by President Arturo Illia, the tunnel reached an overall length of 7,4 km.

The second stage was inaugurated the June 23rd 1973, when its terminus d'" Avenida Plata" was prolonged to the current station " Jose María Moreno".

The last prolongation was carried out in 1985, when the stations " were inaugurated; Emilio Miter" , " Medalla Milagrosa" and " Varela" , finishing in 1986 with the station " Plaza of los Virreyes".
