Libitina

Libitina (or Libitine ) is the Roman goddess of the funeral. One knows no legend where it appears, one knows just that it took care of the good progress of the funeral. It has sometimes be confused with Venus (because of the resemblance between libitina and libido but also owing to the fact that, in Rome, a Venus temple is coupled with the wood of libitina ) or with Proserpine (former goddess of germination, become queen of the kingdom of dead).
According to Plutarque, it is Numa Pompilius which would have introduced the worship of Libitina among Romans. Among poets, she synonymous with died (the Horace III: 30 by exempe).
