Leung Kwok-Hung
Leung Kwok-Hung (Chinese: 梁國雄 ), called Long Hair ( 長毛 ), is member of the Legislative council of the special administrative Région of HongKong, representing the New Territories Is.
The character
Born the March 27th 1956 in HongKong, this activist pro Democracy, trostkist autoproclamé, is one of the principal denouncer of the policy of the government of the Popular republic of China on the continent, and with respect to HongKong. He is the leader of the Group Action of April 5th.
He is more known in HongKong for his hair length and his practice to carry, almost always, his tee-shirts with the image of the revolutionist Marxiste Che Guevara (although this last supported the Cultural revolution). He swore besides that he would not cut his hair as long as the government of the RPC would not present its excuses for the repression which followed the Protest movements of the Place Tienanmen, in 1989.
He was several times briefly imprisoned, as when he burned the Chinese flag or served as the public platform of the Council to shout and strong its ideas high.
Political commitment
It was presented into 2000 to the elections of the Legislative council, for whom it was not elected. It was then presented to the elections of the District committee, in 2003, qu' it also lost. He however sees in his last result a success, taking into account the number of voices which he obtained in a district traditionally acquired with the elected officials pro Beijing.
Leung was represented with the elections of the Legislative council in 2004 and was finally elected, with more than 60.000 votes, that is to say one 3 times more than at the time of its preceding attempt of 2000.
Its program of countryside tackled subjects such as the Vote for all and the improvement of the living conditions of the middle-classes and popular. It also promotes the installation of a Minimum wages, a system of Social security for all, the right to the Syndicats for the workers and setting-up of a tax on the financial Spéculation.
Although it clamp openly its attachment in Che and the Marxist revolutionary ideals, Leung forever registered with the day order any social revolution, and many its policy proposals approach in fact more than one current Social democrat of left that to the revolutionary extreme left.
Democratic engagement pro
At the time of the ceremony of nomination of the Legislative council, on October 6th, 2004, whereas his/her new comrades were in costume, Leung oath with a tee-shirt commemorating lent the protests of Tiananmen.
At the time to speak, left fist survey, black bracelet, it paid homage to the demonstrators who died in 1989. It brought then its personal key to the oath of pre nomination writes, asking justifications the government of the RPC to the massacre of the Tiananmen Place, the handing-over in freedom of all the political prisoners and the end of the rule of the sole party on the continent.
Lastly, he shouted “long life with the democracy, long life with the people” before being invested member of the Council.
The attitude of Leung touching at points significant of the policy of the RPC and traditionally considered taboos in the official enclosures, the observers of the SHORT-NAP CLOTH awaited the reaction of the government of the RPC, which finally, did not arrive. Indeed, although “Special”, the SHORT-NAP CLOTH of HongKong is subjected to a control more and more choking on behalf of the continental government, and freedom of expression can appear sometimes threatened there.
Donald Tsang, the Chief of the Executive Hong Kongais, is regarded there as the pawn of Beijing; Hair Length called it “the boy with the varnished shoes”, and, stopping one of its speeches, offered some to him a very new pair.
Style of Leung, populist and not very orthodoxe, section singularly with the very felted atmosphere and politically correct which generally reigns at the Legislative council of HongKong.
