Letters of my mill

See also: Mill (homonymy)

The Lettres of my Mill are a collection of Nouvelle S, gathered under this title after several of them were published in a newspaper parisienLe Figaro?)-->.

The title usually was spelled and printed “Letters of my Mill”, but one meets various editions under the alternate titles “Letters of my mill”, “the Letters of my Mill” and “the Letters of my mill”.

Starting from their publication under this title, they all were allotted to Alphonse Daudet. One however knows that Paul Arène, inter alia, was the joint author of several news, like in particular revealed it Octave Mirbeau in 1884. Those which were written in collaboration with him, even by him, have a charm, a lightness of writing which is worth to them a place in the schoolbooks and the heart of many readers: the Goat of Mr Seguin, the Old men, the Mule of the Pope, the Legend of the man to the gold brain…

The stories located in Corsica or Algérie (where Daudet remained) are hard, sometimes racist (what does not have anything exceptional among French intellectuals 19th century).

A curiosity: the Priest of Cucugnan; very honestly, Daudet prevents that this history is not him.

Octave Mirbeau will publish, in November 1885: Letters of my thatched cottage , collection of news which has as a framework the Normandy and the Finistere, and which wants to be the antithesis of the kindness of Alphonse Daudet.
