Leticia

Leticia is the capital of the department Amazonas of Colombia.

It is located at the borders of Colombia, the Brésil and the Peru (" Very fronteras").

It was founded in 1867 under the name of San Antonio.

Activities

It is a port city on the river the Amazon, and a center of fishing, activities agroalimentary (gone of tropical fruits, breedings of buffaloes) and of tourism.

In the absence of terrestrial roads, it is served exclusively by boats by the river and its affluents, and by planes (regular line since Bogota).

Population

The city comprises: 25000 inhabitants for which it is necessary to add: 12000 inhabitants arising of this municipality in the indigenous communities (people Yagua and Ticuna) and the various exploitations located primarily along the river.

The city is contiguous with the Brazilian port of Tabatinga. The absence of formal border between the two localities, which in addition have cooperation agreements, make that the transborder Agglomération represents approximately: 100000 inhabitants. It is the same with the small Peruvian establishment of Santa Rosa on other bank.
