Letchworth

Letchworth , of its official name Letchworth Garden City (the Garden city of Letchworth) is a city located in the Hertfordshire (England). Its name is drawn from one of the three villages which surround it during its creation.

Today, the city counts 33  000 inhabitants.

Its origins

Founded in 1903, Letchworth is the prototype of the garden cities imagined by Ebenezer Howard. This last with the idea of a new type of city combining the advantages of the city and the countryside, all the disadvantages in less.

Built on a ground of 16 km ², it represents the ideal of life of the time.

Letchworth today

Several Lotissement S was built since its creation: The Barn in 1947, Jackmans in 1961, Lordship Farm and Manor Park in 1971.

When the economy of the east city to highest in the years 1970, several equipment is built: a recreational center and the theater Plinston Hall in 1982, a hospital in 1984, as well as cinemas and a shopping mall in 1996 and 1997.

At the time of the celebration of the centenary of the community in 2003, one arranges there a circuit of hike and cyclist, Greenway, which forms a belt of 20 km making it tower of the city.
