Let us save research

Sauvons research (SLR) is a association of Enquiring S, Scientifique S and Littéraire S, which aims at defending the financing of the French Recherche by the public authorities. One of its spokesperson médiatisés was Alain Trautmann.

The movement was born from a mobilization against the Loi of orientation and programming for research and the innovation, since 2003, carried out by biologists of the Institut Cochin. This mobilization extended to the unit from the sectors from the university research public, but so deprived, in France. Many demonstrations were organized in all the country and abroad in spring 2004, to denounce what the collective estimated to be a vision of short term and productivist of the governmental orientations for the public research. The movement was largely supported by the French population which, with a petition of the professionals of research (74 000 signatures) and a petition citizen (230 000 signatures), obtained a partial recognition: in particular, of the substantial increases, but not with the height of the needs and waitings according to the partisans of SLR. Association requires a rise of the budget of research of 3% of GDP, a statute and stations for the young researchers, so that France conforms to the European and world objectives.

The collective annually organizes General states of research , to take stock the legislative measures. Within the framework of the presidential election of 2007, it invites all the candidates for better defining their program as regards research at the time of a conference held on February 16th, 2007 with Illkirch. The proposals established during the General states of research are mainly included in the program on the planning of the research of the socialist party. However, the elections are gained by the Union for a popular movement and the collective Sauvons research is opposed to the bill on autonomy universities, which comprises a broad aspect on the problems related on research and the researchers.
