Leon Tornikios

Resulting from a Armenian family whose territories become territories of the Byzantine Empire, Leon Tornikios becomes nevertheless in 1009 catapan of Italy. Named at the time of the revolt lombarde, it undergoes several defeats during spring 1017 and is replaced by Basile Bojoannès. During several years one knows only little thing on his life but in 1047, gathering several generals in disgrace, it carries out the revolt of the armies of the Thèmes of Occident. Appointed emperor by his soldiers it advances on Constantinople. The emperor Constantin IX in spite of his bad health condition carries out the defense of the imperial city while waiting for the army of the topics of the East. Leon Tornikios after two unfruitful attacks folds up and undergoes a defeat the September 11th 1047 by the army of the topics of the East. He dies little of time afterwards.
