Legio IV Macedonica
The Legio IV Macedonica was a Roman Légion consisted Jules César in 48 av. J.C with Italian legionaries . Its symbol was the bull, as for all the legions of César, and a Capricorn. She was laid off by the emperor Vespasien in 70 and was replaced by the Legio IV Flauia Felix.
In 49 av. J.C, Jules César had crossed the Rubicon, thus engaging in a civil war with Pompée. In 48, Pumped, Caton the young person and the preserving part of the Sénat were flee in Greece. César prepared to follow them. Thus it constituted Legio IV.
The legion fought with Dyrracchium and Pharsale. Pumped overcome, it was confined in Macedonia, where it accepted its nickname.
IVe Macedonica supported Octave, the adoptive son of César. It initially fought against the murderers of César to the Bataille of Philips in 42, then against Marc-Antoine with the Bataille of Actium in 31.
In 30, Octave, become Auguste, sent the legion in Tarraconaise (Hispania Tarraconensis) to take share with the Guerres cantabres. After the victory of Auguste in 13, it remained in the province but its manpower were dispersed in the Iberian peninsula.
In 43 after Jesus Christ, Legio IV Macedonica was transferred in Germanie higher to replace the Legio XIV Gemina with Moguntiacum (current the Mainz). With the Legio XXII Primigenia, the legion supported Vitellius, the governor of Germanic higher during the Année of the four emperors (68 - 69); it took part in the engagements, initially against Othon then against Vespasien, which ends by carrying it and becoming emperor.
During the Revolt of the Batavians (69/70), IVe Macedonica protected Mainz and fought the rebels under the command of Q. Petillius Cerealis. Its control was exemplary. But Vespasien did not trust the men of IVe legion, probably because of the support which it had brought to Vitellius. The legion dissolved in 70 then was reconstituted under the name of Legio IV Flauia Felix .
