Geography
- To 15 km in north of Ales and after having exceeded Saint-Martin-with-Valgalgues, on the first buttresses of the the Cevennes, Laval-Pradel is stretched on D 906. This common rests on three villages:
-
Pradel , seat of the town hall, the club of Football, the festivals annual and having the largest ground of game of bowls: the central place. The castle of Trouillas of which it does not remain that some sections of wall was the theater of engagements between hard the Camisards Protestant and troops of Louis XIV at the time of the wars of religion. Pradel is the village more in north of the commune. A beautiful meadow of 17 ha gives its character and its attraction to this pretty village dominated by the mount Rouvergue (alt. 695 m). In top of which a tower of observation of forest fires is drawn up. Peaceful cows feed with the foot of the “Château” (an old relay of station of XIIe century). The old road which carried out to it, connecting the villages between them since of sciècles was closed with beginning of the year 90 due to exploitation Houillère. A main road of coutournement presenting an uneven fort was built on the part Is commune.
- the Farmhouse God , another village of the commune, constituted a stake on the way Regordane leading the travellers and the pilgrims of North through the Massif Central and the Cevennes towards Saint-Gilles (Gard) and the the Camargue, some beautiful frontages and the Romance church Saint-Pierre point out this past. Farmhouse-God was a place of halt and medical care for the travellers since the Croisades, on the road leading to the the Mediterranean. Since about fifteen years, all the trade disappeared from this village which counted two formerly Bistrot S, a vast store general, a school of three classes and a butchery. The mine employing the majority of the men of the village, the village lived at the rate/rhythm of the work whose schedules were sounded by the bell of the village (8H, Midi, 19:00), to see Angélus. The village is built along main street and the entry can be done there by four roads. The inhabitants of the village uses the rout of the “maronnier”, while coming from Ales. The second road, marked out since the Main road leads by a road overhanging a ravine towards the northern suburb of the village. Seen airs Farmhouse-God seems perched on the hill. Another way in the south, makes it possible to discover a recent zone residential and expanding, the new demographic lung of the village. Lastly, the road of Large-Combe the which crosses Laval, Malbosc and Cassagnettes before joining the zone known as of the suburb. It with is noted that this zone formerly extremely busy with suffered much from the closing of the old road connecting Farmhouse-God to Pradel. The section of road closed of approximately two kilometers is today the playing field of the children with bicycle or in the Mobylette.
-
Laval : With a few kilometers in against bottom draws up the Romance church of Laval (12th century) sanctuary where the pilgrims came to collect themselves. A Ossuaire occupies the underground Crypte. Our lady of Laval takes again life at the time of the pilgrimages of August 15th and of September 8th when the minors of Ales and Large Combe pressed themselves formerly. Laval is a village built firmly on a escarpée zone. Gradually, the village seems nibbled by the mine with overdraft says the “discovery”. Observed little on the driving way with Farmhouse-God, an old factory of transformation of the coal now unused but always impressive from the height of its chimney and its travelator.
-
Hamlets of north in the south: The Trip hammer, Mercoirol, Malbosc, Cassagnettes (to be seen its very beautiful door of the 13th century), Arbutus-berry (together of Cevennes farmhouse connected to the Farmhouse God by a tortuous road).
