Laurent-Desired Kabila

Biography

The political struggle of Laurent-Desired Kabila goes back to the beginning of the year sixty of the Luba ethnos group. After its secondary studies, it goes to Paris. From August 1960 in January 1961, he fights against the gendarmerie katangaise in the rows of the youth of the Party Balubakat (Jeubakat). Guevara considered that they would never succeed in being transformed into a revolutionary force. The maquis of Kabila manages to be maintained during about thirty years. It does not exceed the limits of an exiguous territory and is relatively tolerated by the mode mobutist.

During the First war of Congo, the coalition (Rwanda, Uganda) places it at the head of AFDL. Mobutu Sese Seko is reversed in May 1997. After the escape of the dictator, he proclaims President.

The January 16th 2001, it will be assassinated without any apparent mobile by its bodyguard Rashidi Kasereka. Doctor Mashako Mamba present at this moment, will vainly try to bring back it to the life. The lawsuit of the presumed authors of the attack was very disputed by the international community. Thirty people were condemned to death, whose colonel Eddy Kapend, but at the conclusion of this verdict, one affirmed at once that the investigation continued.

Since his death, its successor is not other than his son Joseph Kabila.
