Laurence Edgar Skog is a American Botaniste , born the April 9th 1943 with Duluth.

It is oldest of the four children of a family of farmer. It makes its studies at the university of the Minnesota where it obtains its Bachelor off Arts in botany and chemistry in 1965. It then leaves to go on a journey of herborizing to the Mexico. It enters to the university of the Connecticut to Storrs where it off obtains in 1968 its Master Sciences with a study of the Coriaria of Coriariaceae. It then meets a coed, Judith E. Troop, with whom it Marie in 1968.

Skog starts to study the Gesneriaceae with the Université Cornell. To undertake this research, he visits many botanical gardens. He obtains his pH. D. in 1972. He works then with the Université George Mason of Fairfax in Virginia. The following year, it off obtains a station of conservative within the department of botany of the National Museum Natural History. It leads face its activity of researcher and teacher until his departure to the retirement in 2003. He is member various learned societies of which the Société linnéenne of London.
