History
-
Code Q : group of three letters starting invariably with the letter Q . A very great number of combinations of letters (fallen today more or less in disuse) made it possible to simplify the communications in Morse and even later in phone and to guarantee a perfect comprehension thanks to a codified language where whole sentences were replaced by these 3 letters. Examples: QNH, QFE etc for the various atmospheric pressures, on the level of the airport, sea level etc
-
the letter X is usually used to shorten many English terms. Examples: PAX for passenger , X-feed for crossfeed (intercommunication), X-iron for transfer , WXR for weather (weather) and even LAX for Los Angeles , etc (see also Connection by Boeing and Connection)
