Lamothe-Montravel

Lamothe-Montravel is a common French, located in the department of the the Dordogne and the area Aquitaine.

Geography

History

In the plain of Lamothe-Montravel, to Colly, between the Dordogne and Lidoire on July 17th, 1453, the battle known as “of Castillon was devoted”. This one put an end to the 100 year old war. The general John Talbot who ordered the English army was overcome and killed. A monument commemorates the event of it.

The civil war caused by the reform, between the Protestants and the catholics, whose Lord of Piles, terrorized the catholics. The lord of Piles arrived at Holy-Foy-the-Large then at Montravel in 1562 when it ransacked the priory and the church.

More recently during the war of 1939/45, Lamothe-Montravel was on the line of demarcation and in free zone.
