Lakes of the Water of Hour

the lakes of the Water of Hour are located on the course of the river Eau of Hour, with the borders of the provinces of Hainaut and of Namur, this vast unit made up of five Lac S of reserve constitutes the most important artificial water level of Belgium (and thus of Wallonia). The site of an total surface area of some 1.700 hectares whose more than 600 hectares of water levels divided into 5 lakes and a coast of 50 kilometers, extends on the communes from Cerfontaine (province of Namur) and Froidchapelle (Hainaut). Two dam was arranged in the years 1970: that of the Water of Hour and that of the Platte-Size which is equipped with an hydroelectric station. There are also three pre-stoppings with the localities: Féronval, Ry-Yellow and Falemprise.

Since its design between 1971 and 1978, the exceptional framework of this green site to thirty-two kilometers in the south of Charleroi, invites to the walk, on a hundred kilometers of paths, and the vast water level of the Platte-Size, of a surface of 351 hectares, allows the practice of various water sports. A vacation village created in the years 2000, largely contributed to develop tourism of stay.
