Lake of Holy-Cross
The lake of Holy-Cross is an artificial reserve, setting in waters in 1973, following the construction of the Barrage of Holy-Cross on the course of the the Verdon. It is located between the departments of the Var and the Alp-of-High-Provence, with the foot of the Gorges of the Verdon, the Plan of Canjuers and the Plateau of Valensole, high place of the culture of the Lavande.
This reserve is the third of Metropolitan France by its surface (approximately 2.200 ha) after the Lac of DER-chantecoq and the Lac of Greenhouse-Ponçon. The lake became an estival tourist center and is very attended for the watery leisures. The temperature of water can reach 26°C the summer 1 meter from depth.
The navigation of the motor boats with gasoline is prohibited. Only the electrical motors and the veils are authorized. One meets there many pedal boats and boats various from June to September.
This artificial lake is also used for the écopages of the Canadair S at the time of fires in the area.
