Lake of Bouillouses

The lake of Bouillouses is a French artificial lake of the the Pyrenees of 149 ha.

Geography

The lake of Bouillouses is located at a Altitude of 2017 m on the commune of Mount-Louis, in the department of the the Eastern Pyrenees. It is with the foot of the peaks Carlit and Péric.

History

It is about a Lac articiel whose Barrage was built between 1903 and 1910. The installation of this lake aimed controlling the discharge of river Têt and at providing electricity for the operation of the yellow Train, thanks to an hydroelectric station.

Others

The Lake of Bouillouses and its accesses is a natural Site classified since June 24th 1976 with the title of the Loi of May 2nd 1930.

It is a high place for the hiking in the Pyrenees. Different path S skirts banks of the lake: the GR. 10, the Turn of Capcir, the Turn of Carlit. It is also the door of access towards the chains of lakes of altitude of the Massif of Carlit and one of the starting points for the rise of the top.

The lake of Bouillouses is also very famous in the medium of the fishing. One finds there in particular trouts fario and rainbow trouts. These last, originating in America and established in the lake at the beginning of the century, are very appreciated fishermen.
