Lake George (Australia)
The lake George (in English Lake George ) is a generally dry lake located at the south-east of the Nouvelle Wales of the South, in Australia, with approximately with 30mn in the North-East of Canberra along the " Federal Highway" in direction of Sydney. Its basin is 25 km long on 10 broad.
The bottom of the lake is made of a layer of 30 m sediments deposited during the centuries. When it is out of water, its depth is from approximately 1 m, its more great depths 2 m but since November 2002, it is hopelessly dry. One raises sheep in the zones drained, of the vine on the slopes which surround it. One made sailplane there.
It owes its name to the king of England George III. In indigenous language it bears the name of lake Werriwa which means bad water.
