Lahourcade is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

The grounds of the commune are sprinkled by two affluents of the Gave of Pau, the Géu and the Luzoué and by the tributary of this last, the brook of Lassabaigt.

Toponymy

The toponym Lahourcade appears in the forms lo Casteg and the Mo of Pardies (1344, notaries of Pardies), Laforcade of Pardies (1438, notaries of Oloron), Laforcade deu Casterot of Pardies and Laforcada (respectively 1540 and 1572, reformation of Béarn), Lafourcade (1607, payment of Lagor), Holy Agathe de Lahorcade (1678, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron) and Lafforcade (1704, enumerations of Orthez).

The name says Horcada in Béarnais, of the Gascon forcada/horcada meaning forest of oaks.

History

Paul Raymond note that in 1385 Lahourcade counted 48 fires and depended on the Bailliage on Lagor and Pardies.
