- November 1944: the club is renamed Lille Olympique Sporting Club
The LOSC is the large team of after war and the remainder until the middle of the Fifties. It was called by the press for this reason the machine of war . During this period the LOSC gained five national cuts and two championships, by thus doing one of the club most crested of the history.
An inescapable fall (1955-1969)
The LOSC after this period is in a difficult financial position and to face sells its large players like Jean Vincent in Rheims for 19 franc million (record of the time), Lefevre or Lemaître. However that is not enough, and the Town hall grants an exceptional subsidy of 7 million to the club.
Incompetent to find financial means to audit his debts and to rebuild a team of foreground, the club begins a series of descent-increase which will end with a descent in D3.
- June 1969: abandonment of the professional section
Lille lives sparely (1970-1978)
As of the return in D2 in 1970, Losc takes again its professional statute. However, Losc must always face its debt which is from now on of 700.000 new francs (record of the time). An support group is created, gathering many personalities like Guy Lux and Annie Cordy, and organizes a series of friendly matches to the profit of the team. Anderlecht, Feyenoord Rotterdam, the Standard of Liege and the Olympique of Marseilles answers present and the receipts make it possible to cleanse finances.
This financial upturn does not make it possible the LOSC to shine in championship and the club takes again its yoyo between D1 and D2, which finally worsens the debt again.
In season 1972-1973 closure, the Town hall intervenes after the LOSC announced a debt of 6 franc million. The club is transformed into Company of Mixed economy whose town of Lille holds 80%, the Town hall chooses from now on the presidents.
A modest club of D1 (1978-1997)
The club was coprésidé of 1977 to 1980 per Jacques Aymot and Roger Deschodt. He then knows a period of stability which is not translated on the ground. The LOSC becomes an average club of medium of classification and which exceptionally carries out one good season with a sometimes attractive manpower, sometimes average (finishing between 6th and 17th place lasting this period).
President Lecomte deals with the club in 1994 and saves this one of a financial relegation while negotiating near DNCG. During this period of austerity, the club sells its high-speed motorboats like Antoine Sibierski or Becanovic, privileges the training center and plays the medium of table at the beginning of season. But finally the club is relegated in the second division at the conclusion of the season 1996-1997. It is at that time that the Town hall requires of him to prepare the privatization of the club. In two years, it rebuilds the team by recruiting the trainer Vahid Halilhodžić, and negotiates with the Town hall the conditions of privatization.
Of D2 to the League of the Champions (since 1998)
Two transferees clash at the time of privatization: the first is a consortium of SME of the Area called Foot in North , the second two business men specialists in sporting marketing: Luc Dayan and Francis Graille. More important financial guarantees carried the Town hall to choose the second option: the transferees brought 5 million for recruitment and 15 million banking guarantee to cover the general budget. The presidency of the club was entrusted to Luc Dayan in March 2000. Living in Nice, it transmitted it to Francis Graille in March 2001, the club being then first of League 1. The scores were spectacular, the club being assembled in League 1 as of the first year of privatization, and, the following year with the first European qualification of the club, directly in C1, prestigious and lucrative the Ligue of the Champions. The LOSC creates the surprise by beating Parma in preliminary round, reaches the phase of hens of C1, finishing sizeable 3rd, behind the Deportivo Corogne and Manchester United. Transferred in UEFA Cup, the LOSC reaches the eighth of finale, and fall without being inclined against the Borussia Dortmund.
Very related to Vahid Halilhodzic, itself in conflict with Luc Dayan, Francis Graille decided to sell its shares in January 2002 to Michel Seydoux. Luc Dayan as for him remained principal shareholder of the club during 5 years, via the presidency of BASE, from where it ensured the transition and the continuation of the preliminary draft which was opposed by nonthe delivery of the stage promised by the Town of Lille. After having made come Claude Puel and restore the economic equilibrium and sporting LOSC, it sold its shares in Michel Seydoux and Isidore Partouche in January 2004.
Michel Seydoux becomes the new majority shareholder of the club in company of the tycoon of the machines with under, Isidore Partouche. He reinforces the training policy and creates the center of drive of Luchin, with Camphin-in-Pévèle in order to gradually structure the club in true SME. During this time of change, Losc finishes 14th championship 2003.
Then begins a progressive rise, which results in new qualifications for the European competitions, and makes LOSC one of the new tenors of League 1, whereas big-engined cars such Monaco or the PSG, pains.
In 2004 , the LOSC finishes in the 10th place of the championship, and reaches the Intertoto cut which it gains, which opens the doors of the to him Coupe of the UEFA. It reached the lost eighth of finale there this time against AJ Auxerre. This same season 2004-2005, the team finishes 2nd championship, describing itself as fact directly for the League of the Champions; Its best match is there a victory over Manchester United 1-0 at the Stade de France. Losc finishes third of its hen, which is worth to him to be transferred in sixteenth of finale of UEFA Cup, where it will be demolishes, again, in eighth, by FC Seville, future winner of the competition; whereas in championship, it hangs a third place.
In 2006-2007 , the LOSC thus takes part again in Ligue of the Champions (it is the 3rd participation in 5 years). This time, it crosses the course of hens with at the time of the last match a clear victory 0-2 over the prestigious team of the Milan AC (until there any French club had not been essential on Guiseppe Meazza/San Siro vis-a-vis the " Rossonieri"). But it fails face again has Manchester United during a very discussed match. In championship the season also marks a crushing argument for the club, which finishes in medium of table and does not qualify itself for the competition European.
The September 13rd, 2007 , the LOSC inaugurates its new center of drive based with the Domaine of Luchin to Camphin-in-Pévèle in the presence of many personalities of football. This " Center of Vie" gather the admistratives units of the LOSC as well as the training center.
Discusses match Manchester-Lille (2007)
In eighth of finale of the League of the Champions, the LOSC finds Manchester United. According to its leaders, and many observers, the LOSC loses the match outward journey 1-0 on disputed an enough decision of the referee Dutch Eric Braamhaar, granting a discussed goal: Mr. Braamhaar seems indeed to push Ryan Giggs to draw a blow frankly quickly whereas the guard Tony Silva holds his right post and that it is giving his orders to defense to place his wall. The Inhabitants of Lille will see their call near UEFA rejected. With the return match, Mancuniens beat the Inhabitants of Lille once again 1-0 after a very balanced match. To also note that at the time it match outward journey with the Stage Felix-Bollaert of the incidents one take place in the platform where were the supporters mancuniens and the Authority of Control and Discipline of the UEFA condemned the LOSC to pay a fine of 60 800,341 euros.
After examination of the images of televisions and examination of many witnesses (the Officer of Safety of the UEFA, the Delegate of the UEFA, the correspondent anti-hooliganism of the French Police force in the department of North, the Managing director of the North-not-of-Calais League of football present in the platforms near the incidents, the Director of the Operations of the LOSC), the LOSC made the demonstration which the total control of the organization had been preserved, which the confrontations between supporters had been avoided and which the containment of the troublemakers located in the zone reserved for the supporters unfavourable had been preferred (after dialog with the Police force) with the urban guerilla warfare around the Stage (which represented one true risk with the sight of the state of intoxication generalized of the supporters mancuniens noted by the Police force since the day before). Moreover, the club of Manchester United had not brought any help (only 6 English stadiers for more than 4500 supporters; distribution of the tickets several days before the meeting allowing, in fact, the counterfeit), nor information likely to help the organizer and the French Police force to anticipate the dangerous behaviors.
The Board of appeals deplored the configuration of the platform without however retaining this argument with load for the LOSC since the stage is approved by the UEFA itself. Incident (a sway in the crowd caused by supporters, listed like violent one, to make diversion, and to invade the ground while the stadiers deal with the victims), will have lasted only a few short minutes and generated with final that only one serious casualty (leg broken to regret). This one was not appreciated with its right measurement and the LOSC could measure the devastator effect of the tendentious countryside carried out by the English media which had chosen victimiser the supporters of Manchester United to mask the deficiencies of their management system of the supporters in displacement.
Unfortunately, the matches from DRIVEN in Glasgow last summer (300 supporters of DRIVEN without tickets had penetrated in the Stage), and of Rome this winter (battles arranged in the Platforms between Italians, English and police force with 20 serious casualties and one to support stabbed), were not connected between them to try to analyze the responsibilities for the ones and others.
Lastly, in margin of the principal business, the LOSC is also sanctioned for the misunderstanding which followed the unusual goal (although valid) boxed to the 83e minute of this same match (the players of the LOSC had believed, as in championship of France, that it was necessary to immediately carry the technical complaint on the goal after the first stop of play; what is not the case in payments UEFA). In spite of the excuses of the LOSC and the request for leniency with respect to this exceptional epiphenomene in the irreproachable attitude of the LOSC, the Disciplinary Inspector of the UEFA this interruption extremely serious for the image of the competition considered to be.
The call of the LOSC is thus rejected and amends it confirmed since in the regular manner, for the UEFA, any incident must give place to sanction of the organizer without understanding of the means implemented. The Inhabitants of Lille cannot feel, with the heaviness of the sanction which is inflicted to them, that a certain bitterness when one puts in parallel the exemplarity and the expertise recognized towards the LOSC in the fight against violence in the stages (including by the UEFA besides at the time of the most 50 matches that Lille disputed through Europe). Indeed, the hoop nets had with the supporters are not very frequent with the LOSC (compared with those which causes of the supporters mancuniens).
This ultimate episode marks at the same time the end of the adventure of the LOSC in this League of the Champions 2007, but also a stage in the long training of the European fights.
