It was Consul in 46 av. J. - C. with César. It ordered the troops stationed near Rome at the time of the assassination of César in 44 av. J. - C. and supported then Marc Antoine in his resumption in hand of the capacity.
After the death of César, he was elected Grand pontiff to replace César, and took part in the Second triumvirate with Marc Antoine and Octavien, in 43 av. J. - C.. The division of the provinces granted the Africa to him, from where it launched an offensive concerted with Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa against Sicily and Sextus Pompée.
It was relieved of its load to triumvir by Octave, under the charge of agreement with Sextus Pompée, but preserved its crowned title of Large pontiff until his death.
