Léau

Léau (in Dutch Zoutleeuw ) is a common city and Dutch-speaking of Belgium located in Flemish Région in the province of the the Flemish Brabant.

Léau was one of the seven leading cities of the Duché of the Brabant.

History

Until the 16th century, the city named simply Leeuw or Léau , which means Lion . The prefix Zout ( salt ) there would be added because the city had the right to raise a tax on salt (Gabelle)
