One Thorns I Lay is a group of Greek metal founded with Athens in 1992. A group with the various facets stylistics, passing from the death/Doom metal of its beginnings to the Hard rock current, but generally more known for its albums written in a style Gothic metal.
History
The group started first of all under the name of Paralysis (1992), then Phlebotomy (1993) then finally One Thorns I Lay (in 1995). In 1994, the founding members of the group, left to make their studies of medicine in Romania, recruited local musicians there. At the end of their studies they returned to settle in Greece.
Characteristics
The group is characterized by a continual stylistic evolution. There remains difficult to classify them in a precise kind. Their most popular period being their period Gothic metal.Officiant at his beginnings in a style close to the doom tinted Black metal, their music evolved little by little to a gothic metal emphasizing atmospheres melancholic persons, where alternate themselves, with the manner of Theater off Tragedy (in 1997), of the male-intonated voices in Death grunt and of the feminine voices angelica.
Their music continued to evolve/move, getting rid gradually of vocal in Grunt (1999), and limiting the feminine voices (2001 - 2003) for finally playing a kind of Hard rock tinted Pop rock'n'roll with the Radiohead with the album Egocentric (2003).
In 2005, the group finally reinstated a feminine voice (Mahi) in whole share, and tends to halfway develop an esthetics between the gothic metal of antan and their more recent hard rock.
