Knight of Grimaldi
Antoine Grimaldi , the Chevalier Grimaldi , baptized in the church Saint-Roch with Paris the October 2nd 1697 and deceased with Monaco the November 28th 1784 is the natural son of Antoine II of Monaco (or Antoine Ier of Monaco) and of the Danseuse Elisabeth Dufort (known as Babé); he was recognized by his father in 1715 and died without alliance.
The knight of Grimaldi became governor-general of the principality of Monaco the May 20th 1732 when his/her brother-in-law Jacques Ier of Monaco and its young nephew (proclaimed Honore III of Monaco in 1734) settled in their Hôtel Matignon with Paris and until its death in 1784 remained it (Honore III was then 64 years old).
One had that to rent itself of this one half-century old government. It maintained for example the neutrality of the Principality during the War of succession of Austria (1740 - 1748).
Its remainders rest since 1966 in the Abside of the Cathédrale of Monaco.
