Kinsale
Kinsale ( Cionn tSáile in Irish) is a city of the Comté of Cork, in the south of the Ireland. It is located at 25 km in the south of the town of Cork on the coast with the mouth of the river Bandon.
Kinsale is a popular tourist resort for the Irishmen and the foreign tourists who is known for all his restaurants and his excellent activities of leisures like the pleasure, the angling and the golf. This city is also rich culturally with its galleries of Article.
History
In 1601, Kinsale was the place of a battle between the English and the Irishmen; Hugh O' Neill, was overcome by the armies of Mountjoy (1601), it was subjected and exiled (May). The defeat caused the escape on the continent of noble which had taken part in the war (HTTP: /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_of_the_Earls Flight off the Earls).In 1690, Jacques II of England after its defeat with the Battle of Boyne, was exiled in France.
Charles Fort, located at Summer Cove (village of the port of Kinsale) and going back to 1677, is a fortification which supervised the entry of the port. It was built to protect the place and particularly the port. James' S Fort is located the different with dimensions one of the mouth, on the peninsula of Castlepark. An underwater chain connected the two forts and was tended, in the event of attempt at unloading, to prevent the entry of the river to the enemy ships.
When the RMS Lusitania was torpedoed by a German submarine on May 7th, 1915, the helps were coordinated in Kinsale, which was the port nearest. A statue in the port commemorates this rescue.
Public transport
Bus Éireann (Irish company of bus) is the only public transport with Kinsale. The buses operate regular connections between Kinsale and the town of Cork.
